Add ISBN/ISSN to all bibliographies

I fear the length of time that will be required for the American Psychological Association, the Modern Language Association, and the other popular academic publication style guidelines to acknowledge modern search and retrieval methods. Title, author, publication date, etc. is a woefully obsolete dataset by which to find cited sources of information and theory. All that is necessary is an ISBN number (ISBN-13) for books, or an ISSN number with volume and issue numbers for journals and periodicals. Works cited pages (aka bibliographies or reference pages) really need to add the ISBN and ISSN numbers at the very end of each entry. The author, titles, and date information is important for point-of-contact decision making and other social capital metainformation, but it is the numbers that allow for quick and easy searches.

For periodicals and journals, DOI numbers would be ideal, but I haven’t seen many systems prepared to handle searches using DOIs.
